比較級・最上級-er/-est・more/most・不規則変化の作り方
2つのものを比べて「より〜だ」というときに使うのが比較級、3つ以上のなかで「最も〜だ」というときに使うのが最上級です。
英語では、形容詞や副詞の形を変えて比較級・最上級を作ります。tall（背が高い）→ taller（より高い）→ tallest（最も高い） のように、原級・比較級・最上級の3つをセットで覚えるのが基本。ここでは作り方のルールと例外を見ていきます。
① まずは全体像
作り方は大きく3タイプです。まず「短い語か、長い語か」を見分けるのがポイント。

② 短い語は -er / -est を付ける
音節の少ない短い語は、語尾に -er を付けて比較級、-est を付けて最上級を作ります。

③ つづりの規則（-er/-est を付けるとき）
-er/-est を付けるとき、つづりが少し変わることがあります。次の3パターンに注意しましょう。

④ 長い語は more / most を付ける
音節の多い長い語には -er/-est を付けず、前に more（比較級）・most（最上級）を置きます。×beautifuler のように -er を付けてはいけません。

目安として、-ful / -ous / -ive / -ing などで終わる語や、3音節以上の語は more/most 型になることが多いです。
⑤ 不規則に変化する語
いくつかの語は -er/-est にも more/most にもならず、形そのものが変わります。よく出るので、そのまま覚えてしまいましょう。

good と well、many と much は、原級は異なっても 比較級・最上級が同じ形になります。
⑥ than と the の使い方
比較級の文では、比べる相手の前に than（〜より）を置きます。最上級の文では、普通 the を付けます。

⑦ 間違いやすい形
比較級・最上級の間違いは、だいたい次の3つのパターンに分けられます。

⑧ 覚え方のコツ
まずは「短い語は -er/-est、長い語は more/most」という大きなルールをつかみましょう。そのうえで、つづりの規則（big→bigger、happy→happier、large→larger）と、good-better-best のような不規則変化を例外として覚えるのが近道です。
原級・比較級・最上級の3つを、声に出してまとめて練習すると記憶に残りやすくなります。
